Chemistry and the Art of Mixtures
funded by APAL (Atlanta Partnership for the Arts in Learning)

Beginning the 2009 fall semester in Chemistry class in South Atlanta High School, students will support the unit of chemical "Mixtures" by creating egg tempera. Comparisons of the wavelengths of light and the organization of the color wheel, added lessons in conversion (Chemistry instructor Elizabeth Young) and gridding (Teaching artist Cheryl Myrbo), guide the class through the transfer of a Jacob Lawrence piece of their choice onto a wood panel.

The Jacob Lawrence mural, "Games," (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1978)
was duplicated on the school hall wall using the grid method.
The South Atlanta High School logo is the top of the Greek column bookending the piece.
